Enrolment Process
Applications for Enrolment in Kindergarten and Pre-primary for commencement in 2023 will open in April and close in July 2022.
You are not required to complete an Application for Enrolment for Pre-primary if your child is currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Mount Hawthorn Primary School and you plan to stay at this school for Pre-primary. We will request Proof of Address in Term 4.
Mount Hawthorn Primary School is an Independent Public school. Due to recent and predicted enrolment trends and the availability of facilities to accommodate local students we currently have a local intake only status. We have a set boundary catchment area and only families living within this area are currently eligible to apply to enrol in our school from Pre-primary to Year 6.
Further information about Public School Enrolments can be found at the Department of Education’s website
To find out if you reside in our catchment area and are eligible to apply for enrolment, please consult our Local Intake Boundary Map or contact the school directly.
To find out what school year your child should be in or is old enough to start Kindergarten, visit the Department of Education’s School Age Calculator.
Please email all applications and enrolments to mounthawthorn.ps.enrolments@education.wa.edu.au
Enrolment in Kindergarten
While it is not compulsory, almost all parents send their children to Kindergarten so they get the best start to learning at school.
If you are applying to enrol your child in Kindergarten, you can do this by downloading our Application for Enrolment Form below. In most circumstances, you are offered a place for your child if Mount Hawthorn is your local school and we have capacity.
Kindergarten enrolments are accepted from local families from approximately May to July each year for entry the following year.
Information about required documentation for enrolment is detailed on the Application for Enrolment form.
Enrolments process and timeline
- Applications for Enrolment can be emailed to mounthawthorn.ps.enrolments@education.wa.edu.au by mid-July to assist with planning and placement for following year (See Enrolment Policy)
- Notification of enrolment application in August.
- Class placement and planning throughout August to October (Term 3 and early Term 4)
- Orientation sessions offered to visit the site and classes in November (end of Term 4)
NB: As an enrolment driven IPS school, planning and placement decisions are made constantly and can change at any time. The orientation sessions are general information sessions and provide an opportunity to visit the existing classes in action. Specific placement and staff information may not be readily available at this stage.
Enrolment in Pre-primary
If your child is currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Mount Hawthorn Primary School and you will continue to live within the school boundary, you are not required to complete an Application for Enrolment for Pre-primary. We will require current Proof of Address (e.g. Utilities Account or Rates Notice) and updated Immunisation Record (if applicable) in Term 4.
Children who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Mount Hawthorn Primary School but do not live in the intake-area will need to enrol at their local school for Pre-primary.
Pre-primary is compulsory and every child of Pre-primary age is required to attend school. All children in Pre-primary are guaranteed a place in their local school. You only need to re-enrol your child again if you move schools.
For more comprehensive information on enrolments refer to the Schools and You website.
